What is Breathwork:

Breathwork is an incredibly transformational modality that really is as simple as utilizing varied breath patterns. Shifts happen in the nervous system when we allow our body to communicate through its breath. The ability to connect with emotions and feel them through to completion is foreign to most people. We live in a world where we have been taught to power through, stuff down, and numb out. Breathwork allows you to unwind and expand your awareness of self, while simultaneously unveiling stuck emotions and regulating your nervous system. Breathwork truly connects your mind and body and unlocks a deep level of embodiment. It is a beautiful collision of science, connection to self, and spiritual exploration.

Preparation for in-person and Virtual Sessions:

The most important thing to do to prepare for a breathwork session, either in-person or virtually, is to release all expectations of what it will do for you. A lot of times, we aren’t aware of what our body needs and those needs will come through in your session. The next most important thing to do to prepare for your session is to come with curiosity without a need to assign meaning to sensations or emotions that might arise during your session.

I suggest that you not eat right before your session. Typically, I recommend refraining from eating for 2 hours before your session. Also, please use the restroom prior to your session. It is jarring to your system to pause mid session for a bio break.

You will be lying down during your session (if you are physically able to) so wearing loose fitting clothes is recommended. It is always helpful to have a journal available for any post session thoughts you might want to write down. Another recommended item to have with you is an eye mask. Your eyes will remain closed while breathing and many breathers find that masking themselves allows for a richer experience.

It is important to understand that breathwork can elicit physical responses in your body such as:

Tingling, temperature shifts, sexual arousal, lightheadedness, and tetany. Tetany is a physical reaction that feels like a spasm of contraction in your muscles. It is most common in the jaw, hands, and feet. This only happens to roughly a third of breathers and it will release naturally. Tetany can be caused by the shift in the PH level between O2 and CO2.

Aftercare:

After your session is complete, it is time for you to take it easy. Remember these four Rs:

Rest: Allow yourself to rest mentally and physically

Reflect: Take time to reflect on anything that came up for you during your session. Intentionally take time to remain curious about your thoughts and emotions.

Replenish: Drink water and feed your body nourishing foods.

Reach Out: Breathwork can elicit strong emotional and physical responses. I am always available after our time together has ended. I am here to listen to any shares you might need to have witnessed. I am here if you have any questions. I will either help you discover the answer or guide you to resources that you might find helpful.

Things to remember for Virtual Sessions:

The container of a virtual session, either individual or with a group, operates a bit differently than if we were meeting in-person.

Things that will help deepen your experience:

-Consider having an external speaker if sound quality of the curated playlist is important to you.

-Remember that the virtual doors will open 10 minutes before our scheduled start time and close 5 minutes after our scheduled start time. It is important to the flow of group sessions that you enter the virtual session with your mic muted. I do request that cameras be turned on for the duration of our session.

-Privacy of our group container is important. If you desire to screenshot something to share on social media, please limit that to a screenshot of either yourself or of me.

-The Zoom link will be shared the day of the session
